Young children love to learn about the world around them, and what better way than to teach them about where they live?

Teach your child about the continents of the world with these fun coloring pages.

What is a continent?

A continent is a large land mass.

How many continents are there?

There are 7 continents: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Antarctica, Australia, and Africa.

How to teach the continents?

First, introduce one continent at a time by using a world map or globe.

Read a great book about the continent that you are focusing on.

Use the continent coloring pages to reinforce the shape and name of the continents.

What else can be taught when teaching the continents?

Landforms, landmarks, and countries can also be introduced when teaching the continents.

Children should know the name of the continent and country they live on.

How to use the continent coloring pages?

Use the coloring sheets to make a continent book.

Have your child write a sentence about the continent.

These continents coloring pages feature a blank continent with the name of the continent below.

Before using the continent pages, grab a few informational books to introduce each continent.

Reading a book is a fun way and a great resource for children to learn more about a new topic.

Here are a few books about the continents that kids of all ages can enjoy:

After reading about the continents, your child can also watch a video about each continent.

Make a simple geography lesson by pairing the continent page with these Montessori continent three part cards.

Each card has a color picture of the continent, as well as the name of the continent.

Children can match the continent to its name.

Depending on the age of your child, the objective of the continents lesson can be different.

Young children can learn the names of the continents.

Kindergarten and first grade students should be able to name and locate the continent on the map.

You can use the world map coloring pages to help as well.

Older kids can label the continents on a blank world map, as well as research different cultures and different countries of the world.

Connect the dots to make the continent.

More ways to teach the continents:

Buy a children's globe or map and have your child point out the continents.

Use this world map to help locate the continents on the map.

Play with continent puzzles, I like this puzzle.

1. Use a globe or map to show them where each continent is located.

2. Talk about what makes each continent unique – its climate, landscape, people, animals etc.

3. Use visuals to help them remember – photos, illustrations, short videos.

I created these Continents 3 part Montessori cards that would help your child remember each continent.

4. Again, repetition is key – have them name the continents several times, in order and out of order.

5. Make it interactive – let them point to the continent on the map as you name it, or act out animals or activities associated with each continent.

6. Encourage them to ask questions and be curious about the world around them.
