LETTER R — HOW TO USE IT

Print the Letter R tracing worksheet and have your child trace the uppercase R and lowercase r on the guided lines. Encourage them to begin at the top and follow each stroke carefully, practicing the straight, curved, and diagonal lines needed to form the letters.

As your child traces, say the /r/ sound together and name simple words that begin with R, such as rabbit, robot, rocket, and red. Have your child repeat each word and listen carefully for the beginning sound.

For extra practice, have your child trace uppercase R and lowercase r with a crayon or marker before trying to write them independently. You can also compare uppercase R with uppercase P and ask your child to identify the additional diagonal stroke that makes the letters different.

This worksheet works well for preschool, pre-K, and kindergarten learners practicing correct letter formation, alphabet recognition, and beginning sounds.
