LETTER Y — HOW TO USE IT

Print the Letter Y tracing worksheet and have your child trace the uppercase Y and lowercase y on the guided lines. Encourage them to begin at the top and follow each stroke carefully, practicing the diagonal lines and downward stroke needed to form the letters. Remind them that lowercase y extends below the writing line.

As your child traces, practice the /y/ sound together and name familiar words that begin with Y, such as yellow, yak, yarn, and yo-yo. Have your child repeat each word and listen for the beginning sound.

For extra practice, have your child trace uppercase Y and lowercase y with a marker or crayon before writing the letters independently. You can also ask them to identify the letter Y in familiar words or compare its shape with the letter V.

This worksheet is a helpful activity for preschool, pre-K, and kindergarten learners practicing handwriting, alphabet recognition, and beginning sound identification.
